[[Macula densa]]: Senses changes in sodium ion concentration in the tubular fluid, regulates the release of granular cell renin
[[Granular cell]]: Synthesizes and secretes [[renin]]
[[Mesangial cell]]: Has supporting, contractile, and phagocytic functions
The afferent arteriole and efferent arteriole are connected to the distal convoluted tubule outside the renal corpuscle
When the macula densa senses changes in sodium ion concentration in the afferent arteriole, it regulates the secretion of renin by granular cells. Renin then regulates the relaxation and contraction of mesangial cells, thereby regulating the blood flow in the afferent arteriole (autoregulation)
